West Indies have been a good tournament team’ Brath waite said

Carlos Brathwaite, the West Indies all-rounder, trusts that if his team remain to perform as they did in the ODI series at home against England, they can challenge for the ICC Men’s CWC 2019 title. Fans have bought their Cricket World Cup Tickets and hoping for the West Indies to perform well in the tournament.

West Indies had to go through the qualifying competition, in which they lost in the final to Afghanistan, to cover their place in Cricket World Cup2019 in England and Wales. They lost ODI series to Bangladesh (home and away) and India, but fascinated against England in a drawn series where several records were broken.

Brathwaite, whose last-over recklessness won his side the World T20 2016 title, said their recent performance was a good sign as they chase their third World Cup trophy after wins way back in 1975 and 1979.

“I don’t want our selves to be called favorites or underdogs. But we have newly played some great brand of cricket and if we can repeat that [in England] we will go anywhere close to challenging for the title,” Brathwaite told Media Trust of India on Friday, 22 March.

We have been conventionally a good tournament team; so confidently, we can win the third CWC. From players’ point of view, we have the confidence that we can win and we will play our best cricket.”

One of the Windies’ worries is consistency. After the ODIs, for instance, they warped in the T20Is against England. Given the format of the CWC, where each team plays the other, their task will be to continue a high level throughout.

“We have to play our best game over nine or something initial games and then in the semi-finals and finals,” agreed Brathwaite. “We know what we can do but we need to perform our plans. We have full trust that we can lift the trophy.”

For his own part, he will be happy to play a small part even if it is not something as iconic as beating four sixes in a final over. “I would not be beating four sixes again maybe, but I am happy to be contributing,” he said.

“It’s not about counting a fifty or taking a hat-trick. I’ve mellowed over the years.”
