Head coach Steve Hansen admitted that two or three players had caught his attention at Super Rugby this year. “I will not name names or put pressure on them, but there have certainly been people there,” Hansen said.
They were also pretty obvious to most people. It’s a pleasure to see and now that we’re getting into the commercial part of the season. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain a high level of performance we’ve got from them.
Despite the ambiguity of Hansen’s comments, many previously unknown players have made a name for themselves at this year’s edition of Super Rugby.
The Mid-Season Super Rugby Trophy, while both Blues Tom Robinson and Ma’a Nonu have been rewarded. Akira Ioane was, the teammate of the US Super Rugby, Robinson, and Nonu, also called for the All Blacks Foundation Day camp in Wellington earlier this month.
Hansen went on to say that the performances of many people had left him, along with with his fellow All Blacks coaches, Ian Foster, and Grant Fox, with no shortage of options to choose a team later this year.
“There are some guys who are well established All Blacks who are starting to get in shape and lots of young guys who are starting to get their hands dirty,” he said.
