UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals Lineup and Schedule

Lineup for quarter-finals of UEFA Champions League is complete. Ajax, Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester United, Porto, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have qualified for last eight of UCL. Four English sides have progressed to UCL quarter finals after ten years. UCL 2009-10 was previous edition when four Premier League clubs appeared in quarter-finals. All qualified teams will target to make semi-finals to earn shot at UEFA Champions League trophy in the 2018-19 season.

FC Barcelona have won Champions League on five occasions. Liverpool F.C. have remained European champions five times. AFC Ajax have won European football championship on four occasions. Manchester United F.C. have been victorious three times in UEFA Champions League. FC Porto have remained European Football champions twice. Juventus F.C. have been European champions on two times. Manchester City F.C. have not won UCL as of yet. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. also known as Spurs have yet to win a UCL title. Real Madrid have won UEFA Champions League on most occasions with 13 titles. Ajax had eliminated 2017-18 UCL champions Real Madrid in Round of 16. Liverpool were runners-up of the 2017-18 UCL edition.

Draw for Champions League quarter finals was held on 15th March 2019. Manchester United Vs Barcelona leg of Quarter Final 4 had scheduling conflict with Manchester City Vs Tottenham Hotspur leg of Quarter Final 3 in original draw. Order of draw was reversed to avoid two matches in same city on same time-frame.

Juventus edge Atletico Madrid to reach UCL Quarter Finals

Two time European football champions Juventus edged Atlético Madrid to enter UEFA Champions League quarter finals. Juventus football club outclassed Atlético 3-0 at Juventus Stadium in Turin. It was a remarkable comeback by Juventus F.C. after Atletico Madrid had won first leg 2-0 at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. Juventus advanced to UCL quarter-finals on 3-2 aggregate score. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hattrick to earn Juventus a place in last eight of UCL. Juventus F.C. will aim to grab UEFA Champions League title in 2018-19 edition.

Italian club Juventus attacked on Spanish side Atlético Madrid right from start. Cristiano Ronaldo registered first goal on 27′ to signal JUVE’s intent. Ronaldo equalized aggregate score with his second goal on 49′. Cristiano moved Juventus in lead with a penalty on 86′. Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick sealed victory for Juventus FC with 3-2 aggregate. Juventus made to last 8 of UCL, hitting three goals at Juventus Stadium (Allianz Stadium) in comparison to two goals kicked by Atlético at Wanda Metropolitano.

Cristiano Ronaldo said: “It was meant to be a special night and it was, not just for my goals but for the attitude we showed. That is the sort of mentality you need to win the Champions League. Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri stated: “We weren’t perfect, but we did well to stay focussed. The players have shown great maturity. There was the risk of having a hysterical match, as if everything had to be done in 10 minutes. the comeback was there to be had, and we had 95 minutes to do it. The players played with brilliance and intelligence. [Ronaldo] was good and the rest of the players were also good. The Champions League is a difficult competition and ties are played over two legs, so comebacks can happen if two teams are balanced. No, we aren’t [only] favourites. Manchester United stun PSG to make UCL Quarter Finals

Three time European football champions Manchester United floored Paris Saint-Germain to qualify for UEFA Champions League quarter finals. PSG were outclassed 1-3 by Man United at Parc des Princes, Paris. This was a remarkable comeback by MUFC after losing first leg 0-2 against PSG at Old Trafford, Manchester. Aggregate score was 3-3, but Manchester United made to last 8 of UCL on away goals rule. Marcus Rashford’s stoppage time penalty earned The Red Devils a place in UCL quarter-finals. Man United have advanced to quarter finals of UCL for the first time since 2014. Manchester United under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær will look to win UEFA Champions League trophy in 2018-19 season.

Man United attacked on PSG side right from start. Romelu Lukaku kicked first goal on 2’ to hint MUFC’s intent. Paris Saint-Germain’s left-back Juan Bernat equalized on 12’. Lukaku put Manchester United in lead with a goal on 30’. Marcus Rashford sealed the victory for The Red Devils through the injury-time penalty on 90’+4 to make scoreline read 1-3. This hit resulted in 3-3 aggregate score. Man United moved to last 8 on away goals basis, kicking three goals at Parc des Princes in comparison to two goals fired by PSG at Old Trafford.

This was an outstanding result for Manchester United, a team that was 0-2 down in first leg against Paris Saint-Germain. Ole Gunnar Solskjær, caretaker manager of MUFC was confident that his team can knock-off the favorites PSG in second leg. He trusted in young players and it paid off big time with Rashford slotting his first penalty in PSG net. Man United have triumphed in last nine away games, thanks to brilliant coaching of Ole Gunnar Solskjær. PSG had 72% possession in the match and had four shots on MUFC’s goal, but converted just one. Dani Alves, Kylian Mbappé, Angel di Maria kicked on The Red Devils’ net but missed. Juan Bernat also shelled his second chance at Man United goal. PSG are now defeated in 7 of their last 12 UCL knockout games. They have lost their last two matches at Parc des Princes. Paris Saint-Germain F.C. head coach Thomas Tuchel was left to rue the lost opportunities.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær said: “We always believed. We set out our plan, and it wasn’t about keeping the ball. The plan was to get the first goal and be in the game in the last five or ten minutes – and we were. Fred and McTominay were excellent, screening their high midfielders. That was probably Fred’s breakthrough performance. [Sir Alex Ferguson] is happy and proud as well. This is how we do things at Manchester United. We can go all the way, but we just have to wait for the draw. You can’t really hope for anyone or not want anyone. All the teams are quality. Six goals in three games [for Lukaku] – not bad. Ever since I came and he came back, Lukaku has worked his absolute socks off. He’s had his criticism, but we’ve played him in a position that suits him better. I’m delighted for him.”

Thirteen time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid are beaten by AFC Ajax 1-4 at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid, Spain. Ajax have booked place in quarter-finals of Champions League 2018-19 season. Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone scored for Ajax Amsterdam. Marco Asensio was the lone scorer for Real Madrid CF. Ajax won 5-3 on aggregate after losing 1-2 at home in first leg. Real Madrid have been eliminated from premier European football tournament after remaining champions in last three consecutive seasons. AFC Ajax have qualified for quarter finals of Champions League after 22 years since 1996-97 UCL edition. Four time European football champions Ajax will fancy another shot at UEFA Champion League title glory in 2018-19 edition.

AFC Ajax started the match brilliantly by attacking the defending champions Real Madrid right from onset in first half. Hakim Ziyech scored opening goal on 7’ with Dusan Tadic assist, to equalize aggregate score. David Neres kicked second goal on 18’ with the help of Tadic, to move Ajax into lead on aggregate. Los Blancos counter-attacked multiple times, but could not convert. Scoreline read 0-2 in favour of visitors AFC Ajax on half time. Real Madrid fans at Santiago Bernabéu were stunned to see Ajax Amsterdam lead 2-3 on aggregate.

Ajax did not lose the choke-hold applied on European reigning title holders Real Madrid in the second half. They consolidated the dominance with third goal on 62’, thanks to Dusan Tadic hit. Los Merengues responded with their only goal on 70’ by Marco Asensio. Ajax one-upped the ante with 72’ goal by Lasse Schöne goal. Los Vikingos could not score another goal till match close. Real Madrid lost 1-4 to Ajax at home, who advanced to UCL quarter final with 5-3 aggregate. Dusan Tadic was named man of the match for his exceptional soccer performance.

AFC Ajax manager Erik ten Hag said in post-match press conference: “It’s a historic victory of incredible importance; it’s almost unthinkable, almost nobody believed it could happen. The plan we had was to have possession and make Real Madrid uncomfortable in their game. We performed really well in transition and defended incredibly; all the boys have been fantastic and I’m very happy for Ajax and Dutch football. We’re alive in three competitions and have had a very good season, but the prizes don’t come until the end of the campaign. We want to achieve our goals, we have to set the bar even higher and continue to improve.”

Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag stated: “This was pretty close to perfection. Over the two matches we definitely deserve to progress to the next round. I enjoyed watching my team immensely this evening. Let’s not forget that we started in the qualifying rounds. But we are still in the running for three prizes, and we want to win them all. I have no influence on the draw, so I’m not going to think about it. All the possible opponents are big teams. But so were Real Madrid.”

Spurs beat Dortmund to advance to UCL Quarter Finals

Tottenham Hotspur have defeated Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at Westfalenstadion, Dortmund, Germany. Spurs have reserved berth in quarter finals of Champions League 2018-19 edition. Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain Harry Kane scored only goal of the match on 49′. Spurs won 4-0 on aggregate building on 3-0 win in first leg. Tottenham Hotspur have reached UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for only the second time after 2010-11 UCL season. Dortmund have been eliminated twice from their last three appearances in Round of 16 stage (last suffering this fate in 2014-15 UCL edition).

Borussia Dortmund started the match superbly by attacking the opponent on multiple occasions in first half. Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris made saves against Marco Reus, Julian Weigl Mario Gotze and Jadon Sancho. Spurs defenders Jan Vertonghen and Ben Davies also thwarted the attacks of Reus and Weigl. Borussia Dortmund kicked five clear shots at Tottenham goal in later stages of the first half. It was brilliance of Hugo Lloris that helped Spurs block all Borussia attempts of scoring before break.

Spurs attacked on Borussia Dortmund in the second half right from start. Son Heung-Min made an early effort that went just wide of the post. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko placed a perfect pass to vice skipper Harry Kane, who curved the ball wide of Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki into net in the right corner. Borussia Dortmund (BVB) had a mammoth task on hand after conceding 4-0 lead for UCL quarter-final qualification. But they could not score as Spurs employed solid defence. Spurs skipper Hugo Lloris was judged man of the match for his excellent performance as goalie.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said: “We are in the quarter-finals. I’m so happy for the players, and the fans. It’s an important victory. Of course we suffered a bit but it’s OK and we fully deserve to be to be in the quarter-final. Hugo Lloris was great. We conceded more chances than we expected but that’s football. After losing in the first leg they had nothing to lose. In the last 10 minutes of the first half it was difficult for us. They started to play a little but more and then in the first action when we were able to connect we managed to score the goal. Now it’s about enjoying that we are in the quarter-final. We need to feel proud.”
