They consolidated their lead with a Hakim Ziyech strike on 35′. Scoreline on half time read 2-0 in the favour of the hosts. Spurs staged a counter attack with a goal by Lucas Moura on 55′. He equalized the score with a 59′ hit. Few near misses by both teams meant that Ajax were still ahead on aggregate towards the conclusion. Match entered in the extra time as both clubs exchanged blows. Lucas Moura completed the hat-trick on 90’+6 to hand the win to the visitors. Van de Beek helps Ajax beat Spurs in UCL Semi Final 1st Tie

AFC Ajax have defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the UCL semi-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Van de Beek scored in first half, that remained only goal of the match. Ajax Amsterdam will carry the advantage of away goal to the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.

Ajax have moved one step closer to lifting the UEFA Champions League title in the 2018-19 edition. This is remarkable performance by Ajax Amsterdam, who were written off from progressing ahead of the group stage of the UCL. If they turn out to be the UCL winners in this season, then it will be their 5th European Club Football title. AFC Ajax had won three consecutive titles in the 1970s, and they had last secured this honour in the 1994-1995 UCL season.

Spurs missed their main forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, due to injury and suspension respectively. Tottenham were ordinary throughout the match on their home ground. They did not offer much resistance to Ajax’s attack in the first half. Mauricio Pochettino’s side staged a comeback in the second half. They could not score themselves, but kept the visitors’ lead to just one goal. The Lilywhites will hope to carry the fight from the 2nd half to the away game at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena. They will look to channel the performance displayed against Manchester City in the UCL semi-final. If they can play with that attacking and competitive intent, then Spurs can sucker-punch eliminate Ajax from the Champions League‘s current season.

Tottenham crash Manchester City from UCL to end Quad hope

Spurs have eliminated Manchester City to book berth in the semi finals of the 2018-19 Champions League. Manchester City won the second tie of the quarter final by 4-3 against Tottenham Hotspur at City of Manchester Stadium. That meant that aggregate score from both ties was 4-4. Tottenham advanced to the UCL semi-final on the away goals rule. Sky Blues were haunted by their goal-less campaign in the first tie of the UCL quarter-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Raheem Sterling provided early impetus for Manchester City with the opening goal on 4′. Celebrations of Sky Blues were short lived though Tottenham Hotspur counter-attacked immediately. Spurs got the lead with double goal by Son Heung-min on 7′ and 10′. Bernardo Silva kicked the equalizer goal for Man City on 11′. Raheem Sterling completed his own double with a goal on 21′ to move Sky Blues into lead. Manchester City remained in control of the UEFA Champions League tie versus Tottenham with 3-2 score on half time.

Tottenham Hotspur had the edge of lone goal win in the first leg of the UCL quarter final tie. Man City consolidated their lead in the second half with a goal by Sergio Agüero on 59′. A match scoreline of 4-2 meant an aggregate score of 4-3 in the favour of the Sky Blues. Fernando Llorente brought back Spurs in the game by scoring a goal on 73′. Scoreline read 4-3 with Sky Blues still in the lead. But the aggregate score now stood at 4-4. That meant Tottenham now had edge on the basis of away goals. Manchester City desperately tried to land knockout blow in the closing moments of the match. They were held back a solid Spurs defence though, and could not score another goal. Raheem Sterling netted his hat-trick attempt in the final moments, but was disallowed out on VAR, adjudging Sergio Agüero was offside early on. Man City won the match by 4-3, but that was not enough in the end.

An aggregate score of 4-4 signaled that tie result decided on the away goals rule. Sky Blues had not scored a goal in 1-0 defeat during the first leg at Spurs home Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tottenham did score three goals though in losing effort at City of Manchester Stadium, home of Man City. Tottenham Hotspur have advanced to the UCL semi final, to keep their Champions League title bid on track. Manchester City bow out of the prestigious European football tournament. Quadruple hopes of Pep Guardiola’s team are dusted though.

Manchester City Quadruple may be Difficult but Treble is On

Man City has staked claim for quadruple in this season. Champions League victory can be little tough due to quality opposition. Treble is definitely on for Manchester City though. Sky Blues have reached to FA Cup final. They are trading blows with Premier League leaders Liverpool. They have already won EFL League Cup, also known as Carabao Cup. Pep Guardiola’s team is looking steady for three trophies in the 2018-19 season.

Manchester City beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 in the semi final of the FA Cup on 6th April 2019 at Wembley Stadium, London. Gabriel Jesus was the only scorer of the match. Watford came from behind to win other semi final 3-2 in extra time against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Sky Blues and Watford F.C. will meet in 2019 FA Cup Final on 18th May 2019 at London’s Wembley Stadium. Five time champions Man City are favourites to bag FA Cup title over Watford who have never won this trophy before. Manchester City had last won FA Cup in 2011, while they made last appearance in final in 2013. Watford FC made their only final appearance in 1984.

Sky Blues and Liverpool are switching top position in the Premier League 2018-19 season. Liverpool are currently leading with 82 points from 33 matches. Manchester City are second with 80 points from 32 games. Man City have won Premiership on three occasions. Liverpool are 18-time first division champions in English football history. But they have never won Premier League from its start in 1992. Defending champions Manchester City are favourites though as they have won their all three EPL trophies in this decade.

Champions League seems the weak link for Man City though. They have lost first leg of the UCL quarter final by 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur. Pep Guardiola’s side is capable of making a comeback from loosing situation. A strong performance in second leg at City of Manchester Stadium will improve chances of winning the UEFA Champions League trophy for Manchester City. Good point is that low scoring first leg means less work in the second leg for Sky Blues.

We will see what will happen.”

There was the risk of having a hysterical match, as if everything had to be done in 10 minutes. the comeback was there to be had, and we had 95 minutes to do it. The players played with brilliance and intelligence. [Ronaldo] was good and the rest of the players were also good. The Champions League is a difficult competition and ties are played over two legs, so comebacks can happen if two teams are balanced. No, we aren’t [only] favourites. We are one of the favourites to win the Champions League.”

The plan was to get the first goal and be in the game in the last five or ten minutes – and we were. Fred and McTominay were excellent, screening their high midfielders. That was probably Fred’s breakthrough performance. [Sir Alex Ferguson] is happy and proud as well. This is how we do things at Manchester United. We can go all the way, but we just have to wait for the draw. You can’t really hope for anyone or not want anyone. All the teams are quality. Six goals in three games [for Lukaku] – not bad. Ever since I came and he came back, Lukaku has worked his absolute socks off. He’s had his criticism, but we’ve played him in a position that suits him better. I’m delighted for him.”

We performed really well in transition and defended incredibly; all the boys have been fantastic and I’m very happy for Ajax and Dutch football. We’re alive in three competitions and have had a very good season, but the prizes don’t come until the end of the campaign. We want to achieve our goals, we have to set the bar even higher and continue to improve.”

Let’s not forget that we started in the qualifying rounds. But we are still in the running for three prizes, and we want to win them all. I have no influence on the draw, so I’m not going to think about it. All the possible opponents are big teams. But so were Real Madrid.”

After losing in the first leg they had nothing to lose. In the last 10 minutes of the first half it was difficult for us. They started to play a little but more and then in the first action when we were able to connect we managed to score the goal. Now it’s about enjoying that we are in the quarter-final. We need to feel proud.”
