Jose Mourinho believes that Liverpool “deserved more” after losing 3-0 to Barcelona in the Champions League, but believes that the team of Jurgen Klopp has the chance to escape the Camp Nou no worse result.
Liverpool now has a mountain to climb after Barca secured a comfortable advantage in the first leg of his semifinal on Wednesday night. Luis Suarez opened the scoring against his former club in the first half, before Lionel Messi scored a late goal, including a sublime free-kick, completing Barcelona’s victory. But as Liverpool tried to find a way to get into the match, Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto both missed the opportunity to extend Barca’s lead. After the match, Klopp claimed that Liverpool’s performance was his best performance in the last two seasons.
And although Mourinho agrees that the result did not justice to Liverpool, the former boss of Manchester United think that the Barca could have won by a larger margin. “Liverpool has been brave in their approach,” Mourinho told RT.
“I do not think that in the last 20 years, many teams of the Champions League have defeated Barcelona in all possession of the day at Camp Nou.” Of course, they have a good team, they have phenomenal players, but this player [Messi] is absolutely amazing. “Liverpool deserves a lot more than defeat 3-0, a lot more, but in the last two corners of the match he could be 4-0 or 5-0 because the match was broken and then they could not cope.”
