Lucas Moura hattrick earns Tottenham Hotspur UCL Final berth

Tottenham Hotspur have reached in the final of the UEFA Champions League. Ajax were defeated 2-3 by Spurs in the second leg of the UCL semi-final at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. Lucas Moura scored a hat-trick in the second half to hand Tottenham a sensational win. Spurs’ 0-1 defeat in the first tie meant that aggregate score was 3-3. Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the UCL final on the basis of away goals. Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech had hit goals to put AFC Ajax in lead in the first half. Mauricio Pochettino’s team staged one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Champions League. Eric ten Hag’s side was left heart-broken after being eliminated from the UCL semi final.

Spurs have booked their maiden appearance in the Champions League Final. Tottenham have previously won the Europa League twice. They had also won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup once. Tottenham Hotspur have become eight English club to make it to the UCL final. Spurs will face Liverpool in an all-English clash to decide the European club football champions of the 2018-19 season. 2019 UCL Final will be third European club football tournament final featuring both English sides.

AFC Ajax were favourits after Tottenham had lost 0-1 in the first leg of the UCL semi-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. They scored early with a goal by captain Matthijs de Ligt on 5′. They consolidated their lead with a Hakim Ziyech strike on 35′. Scoreline on half time read 2-0 in the favour of the hosts. Ajax were ahead on aggregate by 3-0 now, as the English club had been goal-less as of yet.

Spurs staged a counter attack with a goal by Lucas Moura on 55′. He equalized the score with a 59′ hit. Few near misses by both teams meant that Ajax were still ahead on aggregate towards the conclusion. Match entered in the extra time as both clubs exchanged blows. Lucas Moura completed the hat-trick on 90’+6 to hand the win to the visitors. Aggregate was 3-3, but Tottenham won the UCL semi-final tie as they had scored 3 goals at Johan Cruyff Arena, while Ajax had made just 1 goal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs’ victory in the UCL semi final came on the back of remarkable turnaround by the fellow English club Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp’s side had stunned tournament favourits Barcelona a day earlier. Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool will fight for the Champions League title at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.
