Jurgen Klopp does not know if Manchester City’s exit from the Champions League increases Sky Blues’ chances to retain the Premier League title.
Liverpool is leading the standings for the weekend games and City, who has a game late against the Reds, will face Tottenham at Etihad. Tottenham knocked out City of the Champions League to score away goals in a 4-3 aggregate result Wednesday night.
The city can immediately avenge the Spurs on Saturday and Klopp was questioned about the consequences of their exit from the Champions League on the title race. “No idea, but it was amazing,” Klopp replied. “Seeing that – wow, I really felt for them, everyone thought it was a goal and celebrated it.
“I know some people have said without VAR that it was a clear goal, but we are still discussing it. ‘It was offside at the moment but it was hard to take big compliments to Tottenham. I said at the beginning of the season that the summer was the hardest, not because they had not signed any contract, but because they had only two weeks off.
‘To score three times at City, they deserve it of course. If it affects the league, I have no idea. We will see that. Liverpool will face Cardiff on Sunday with the Bluebirds still struggling to avoid relegation. Cardiff must get something out of the game and Klopp warns his players that they need to be wary of set-pieces.
