In the light of this news, fans and journalists have called for the return of Marle Harlequins, Marler, in the international fray. The English international, with 59 caps, had a break early in the season and did not turn back, even if England was in a desperate situation this season.

With Vunipola in the fall, Ben Moon and Alec Hepburn, Exeter’s assistants, and Ellis Genge, of Leicester, were opened, while England was extended in that department. Until then, Vunipola and Marler were the two who had competed for the number one jersey under Eddie Jones.

When he was fit, Vunipola was one of England’s best players this season and arguably the best bull in the world. He was nominated for the title of European Player of the Year and his absence was certainly noticed in the Six Nations after being injured in the second match. Despite his good physical condition, he suffered injuries and will have to face a race before the September World Cup.

It seems more than likely that Jones will try at least to try to convince Marler to represent his country again at the World Cup, as it encroaches on a desperate time. Although Moon and Genge have made excellent progress in the Six Nations, not many people will say that Vunipola is not the best nipple in England, and Marler is probably second best.

However, as Vunipola is not expected to play England warm-up matches before the World Cup, Jones would like to evaluate his options. Marler’s return would be a welcome boost and would ease the pressure on England’s resources.
