James Haskell, the flanker of the Saints of England and Northampton Saints, announced that he would leave professional rugby at the end of the 2018/19 season.
The 34-year-old Saints has had a difficult campaign due to injuries. He has many ankle and toe problems. After 77 attempts in an eleven-year-old English jersey, the flanker decided to end his rugby career. Fans are buying online tickets for Rugby World Cup 2019.
“I enjoyed every minute of my career in rugby and I feel very privileged to have played with and against outstanding players,” said Haskell.
There are so many people to thank, but I especially want to express my gratitude to all the coaches and physios with whom I have worked throughout my career.
“I also want to thank all my teammates over the years for supporting me and giving me an adventure that has allowed me to laugh every day,” he added.
Retirement is obviously a very difficult decision for me, Professional rugby has been at the center of my life for so long. Although it’s strange to imagine living without it, I look to the future with a lot of enthusiasm.
I look back to my career and I was very lucky to have done most of the things that are done in rugby. Unfortunately, I will never know what it’s like to win a World Cup or represent the Barbarians.
Finally, I would not have achieved what I have in this sport without the continued support of my great wife, my family, and my friends. To all of them, I am incredibly grateful. England head coach Eddie Jones, who has selected Haskell 15 times, paid tribute to his career.
“When I think back to my time as James coach, it will always make me smile,” he said. “
It was a privilege to train him, but also to have fun. That’s what I would call a ‘glue’ player someone who always tries to get a team together.
Despite the injuries that prevented him from reaching his goals this season, he must be remembered for a great career and for someone who has never given less than 100% to the club and the country.
