England head coach Eddie Jones has announced that 29 players will be participating in a training camp at Pennyhill Park next week (June 23-27).
Alex Dombrandt (Harlequins), Lewis Ludlam (Northampton Saints), Ruaridh McConnochie (Bath Rugby) and Val Rapava Ruskin (Gloucester Rugby) receive their first call on England’s senior training squad. Sports fanatics can book Rugby World Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.
Chris Robshaw and Danny Care were excluded from the five-day camp in Surrey. Flanker Robshaw was England’s captain at the 2015 World Cup. But he played for the last time in his home country a year ago. In addition, Scrum Half Care was not selected at Six Nations last season.
Bristol and Nathan Hughes are also absent from squad and it remains to know if another absentee – Northampton hooker, Dylan Hartley is called to the camp at some point this summer.
Hartley, who led England to the Six Nations titles in 2016 and 2017, has not played for six months because of a knee problem and it is understood that he is still struggling with this problem.
This week is the first of two training camps, held at Pennyhill Park and Lensbury (June 30 – July 4), prior to the start of the first official Rugby World Cup training camp on July 7 in Lensbury.
Players participating in the Pennyhill Park camp will not have participated in the semi-finals or the Gallagher Premiership Finals, with the exception of Ludlam and Rapava Ruskin.
Both players and a small number of people involved in the Quilter Cup match against Barbarians will be managed. So that their active rest periods after the season are filled in accordance with the Premiership Rugby and Rugby Players Association.
Jones said: “The first two England training camps are designed to improve individual players’ fundamentals to allow them to compete for a place in the Rugby World Cup squad.”
England’s Rugby World Cup training squad will be announced by Jones at Japan House on Thursday, July 4th.
England will face Wales on 11 August and Ireland on 24 August at Twickenham Stadium and Italy on 6 September) in Newcastle as part of the Quilter International and will play away against Wales on August 17 in Cardiff.
