Buttler 150 overshadows Gayle 162 as England lead ODIs 2-1 against West Indies

England scored 418/6 in fourth ODI on 27th February 2019 at St George‚Äôs in Grenada. Jos Buttler smashed career best 150 runs. English captain Eoin Morgan hit 103, while openers Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow registered 82 and 52 runs respectively. West Indies came very close to chasing target with Chris Gayle’s 162 runs. Darren Bravo put on 61 runs, while Carlos Brathwaite’s 50 and Ashley Nurse’s 43 were other major contributions for the Caribbean team. England earned victory by 29 runs thanks to Adil Rashid’s five-for and Mark Wood’s four-for. ODI series between West Indies and England is offering adequate preparation for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 with hard fought matches.

English openers Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales compiled 100 runs partnership to lay strong base. England skipper Eoin Morgan continued momentum with 88 balls century after the departure of Hales and Bairstow. 204 runs stand between Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan helped his team compile a mammoth total. England smoked 24 sixes to break record of most ODI sixes in an innings. 46 total sixes clobbered by England and West Indies easily surpassed record of most sixes in a match.

West Indies were motoring in the chase with 176 runs partnership between Gayle and Bravo. Continuing decent form, Chris Gayle smoked 14 sixes. England pacer Mark Wood took four wickets at important intervals to slow Windies’ progress. Gayle collected 162 runs of 97 balls, with 11 fours and 14 sixes. DM Bravo offered good support in middle order with nearly run a ball 61 runs. Windies captain Jason Holder tried to play sheet anchor role with 29 (35) before getting out. Ben Stokes removed Chris Gayle to dent West Indies’ chase. Carlos Brathwaite 50 (36) and Ashley Nurse 43 (41) brought Caribbean side close to target. But then England spinner Adil Rashid took four wickets in five balls in the 47th over to knock over Windies. Jos Buttler got man of the match award for his superb batting. England went 2-1 in 5-match ODI series versus West Indies with game left. Chris Gayle was praised for his hard-hitting and six laden innings.
