Chelsea will face the Champions League next season after confirming his place in the top four on Sunday.
The Blues had originally won a comfortable 3-0 win against Watford, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuain. Their place in the top four was assured after Manchester United and Arsenal lost points against Huddersfield and Brighton respectively.
Manchester United is now certain to finish outside the top four and compete in the Europa League next season. Arsenal, although mathematically still in contention, should not supplant Tottenham as there remain three points and a difference of eight goals between the two sides.
Chelsea has missed the Champions League this season after finishing fifth, five points behind the top four, and has competed in the Europa League this season where he is about to qualify for the final.
While football in the Champions League is now secure, the boss of Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri, has already insisted that the Blues would take seriously their return match in the semifinal against Frankfurt.
After the victory over Watford, he said on the Chelsea club’s website: “We want to be at the end of the Premier League in the top four. We want to play in the Champions League.
“The Europa League is very important and we want to win because we think we deserve to win a trophy this season, so we have two goals.”
Tottenham should join the Blues in the Champions League next season, which means they have qualified for the competition for the previous four seasons.
